College of Natural Resources
The College of Natural Resources (CNR) is where “the planet is our classroom,” as it has a compelling 90+ year history of creating value at the intersection between the natural and built environment. As one of the top colleges in the nation for the study of natural resources and conservation according to College Factual, CNR offers a comprehensive educational experience that brings together science, technology, policy, and people.
CNR epitomizes NC State’s “Think and Do” motto by providing students both the breadth and depth of knowledge needed for advancing the sustainable use of our planet and its people, while also giving them practical hands-on learning experiences through course projects, field work, and internships. Career opportunities in natural resources are diverse and touch every aspect of how we interact with our planet, sustainably utilize Earth's resources, and keep our communities healthy and thriving. Our students go on to work with wildlife, shape environmental policies, manage land for timber, sustainably engineer everyday products from natural resources, ensure clean water, create recreation and tourism opportunities, lead athletic programs, and more.
CNR places a strong emphasis on student success by focusing on the whole student experience, from recruitment to graduation and beyond. Each student is provided with an academic advisor and given access to a variety of career fairs and other student success services. CNR also bolsters student confidence in tackling environmental and sustainability problems through supporting co-curricular activities such as leadership development programs and student clubs.
As one of the smaller colleges at NC State, the College of Natural Resources is a close-knit community where students enjoy reduced class size and direct access to faculty and staff support — from application to graduation. As an intimate community in a large university, we’re proud to offer our students the best of both worlds. Learn more: cnr.ncsu.edu
