Prevention Services
NC State Prevention Services offers comprehensive support to students through a developmental and non-judgmental lens. The department specializes in case management, outreach, and prevention education designed to foster student success both academically and personally. Whether through one-on-one resource consultations, resiliency training, or post-hospitalization support, the team provides a flexible range of services for students, parents, faculty, and staff to ensure a healthy and connected campus community.
The CARES program serves as a vital resource for student behavioral case management, focusing on early intervention and support for those in distress. By collaborating with campus partners, CARES managers provide behaviorally based assessments and referrals to help students navigate challenges and build self-advocacy. Similarly, the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) prevention team works to reduce the risks associated with substance use. Through harm-reduction training, first-year education programs, and BASICS screenings, students are empowered to make informed decisions.
Dedicated Suicide Prevention and Outreach efforts aim to minimize risk factors while increasing social connectivity across the university. These initiatives include evidence-based QPR training, faculty and staff empathic communication training, large-scale awareness events, and peer-led programs like the Mental Health Ambassadors focused on reducing the stigma around help-seeking. By providing the community with tools for early intervention and offering "postvention" support after tragic events, Prevention Services ensures that the Wolfpack community remains a resilient, caring environment for everyone.
