Undergraduate Research (OUR)
The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) supports and advances undergraduate engagement in scholarly research, creative inquiry, and discovery across all academic disciplines at NC State. Through personalized guidance, open professional development, funding opportunities, and campus-wide programming, the OUR helps students integrate research into their undergraduate education and academic development.
The OUR supports students and their mentors at all levels of experience, and students from all disciplines are encouraged to participate in research and creative scholarship. These experiences contribute to knowledge creation and to students' professional preparation. In particular, students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills essential for academic and professional success.
The office provides guidance on identifying research opportunities, preparing for mentored projects, and communicating research outcomes through presentations, publications, and symposia, along with other valuable research-related skills. The OUR also administers research and travel awards, coordinates undergraduate research showcases, and collaborates with academic and administrative partners to strengthen a campus culture of support for undergraduate research.
